A Call To Arms

“I’ve always considered our individual sense of humour as a divine gift. It’s the trait that runs indelibly through families, cements friendships that last a lifetime and is often cited as the single most important factor when choosing a mate.

Today we live in a world where a handful of individuals who have removed themselves so far from humanity feel justification in murdering people for expressing their sense of humour. Let’s be clear, this has nothing to do with religion – unless the perpetrators truly believe that the will of God is genuinely known to a few dusty old men hiding in caves with an appetite for beheadings?
Nope, I just don’t buy it.

The truth is that it’s far simpler than that and actually far more depressing. It’s a purpose they’ve found to make their hollow shells of existence mean something. This is a condition of our age, not exclusive to a single religion or race.
Unfortunately for Islam, this particular faith has had a fraction of its teachings hijacked and mutated into a brutally cohesive structure by a minority of men with a yearning to devolve humanity back into the dark ages – for whatever political gratification.

Yesterday’s attack on the offices of Charlie Hebdo and the murder of 12 people by creatures proclaiming themselves to be avenging the Prophet Mohamed over satirical cartoons is a startling focus point that requires a call to action for us all.

What I’m proposing is a simple response. Today spend 2 minutes Googling “Islamic cartoon” (or similar – joke, sketch, etc.). Pick out the one you find funny. Then send it on to 12 of your friends, families or acquaintances anywhere in the world. Ask them to do the same. And so on. Flood the world with the material these people take offense at. Do it because you find the cartoon or joke funny and do it 12 times – one for each of the victims.

Je Suis Charlie.”
